Kansas--The Wheat State

On December 1st, 2010, we planted wheat seeds in our classroom--we realize we're a little late compared to most Kansas wheat farmers because they like to plant their seeds in late September and early October. Our seeds are compliments of Mrs. Rathbun (Ellsworth County Extension Agent). She gave us some seeds to plant in our classroom during our scavenger hunt--and we finally found some time to get them planted. 

But, before we could plant them, we had to learn about the plant growing process. Here, we are watching a BrainPop, Jr. video on the SmartBOARD. 

Then, we used our interactive SmartBOARD to label the plant parts and arrange the growing process in the correct order. 

To the cup of soil, we each added 20 seeds. 

Here, our seeds have been planted in soil, watered and placed in the window so they can receive the sunlight they need to grow. 

Our wheat is really growing! These pictures were taken before we left for winter break. 

By the way our wheat is growing, we may need to round up a combine to harvest our crop before long!
