Categories Scavenger Hunt!

Each week as homework, we complete our categories books. Mrs. Kasper writes a topic in our book such as "Things that light up" and we must come up with 3 entrees that others won't likely think of. For instance, if someone writes 'street lights' and someone else has the same thing, we don't get a point. Our goal is to get 350 points as a class. Once we earn the points, it's time to celebrate! Our first categories reward was a scavenger hunt. We got to leave the classroom one afternoon and make our way around the school neighborhood reading directions and collecting items. Our class was divided into 3 different groups and we were all going different directions!

While we were out and about...

One stop was the Ellsworth Courthouse. There we found Mrs. Rathbun, one of the Ellsworth County 4H Extension Agents. She loaded us up with goodies! We even got some wheat seeds that we planted in our classroom.

Another clue was to find the place where you can get popcorn on Fridays.
Humm...that would have to be Citizens State Bank!

During Halloween, the other bank in town (First Bank of Kansas) hosts a pumpkin decorating contest. When we visited that bank, they gave us a delicious cookie!

We also visited the Ellsworth Art Gallery and the J.J. Robbins Memorial Library where we gathered seashells and bookmarks.

Finally, the bonus question was to find a business with Mrs. Kasper's name on it. Next door to the Art Gallery, we found the Peterson & Kasper law office. There, they gave us a pencil and eraser to use in the classroom.

The scavenger hunt taught us the importance of reading directions and working as a team. We would like to thank the participating businesses of Ellsworth along with our room mothers for making this reward so much fun!
