Happy 150th Birthday Kansas!

On Friday we celebrated Kansas' 150th Birthday a day early. That morning, we rotated with our second grade peers between the three classrooms.

We enjoyed making a scrumptious sunflower on a stick treat in Mrs. Robson's classroom!

Yummy Treat!

After enjoying our snack, we watched a movie about how bread is made.

In Miss Donley's classroom, we created our own Cottonwood tree using Q-Tips. We learned that Q-Tips are made from real cotton!

In Mrs. Kasper's classroom we played Kansas Jeopardy! We learned all kinds of facts about Kansas we didn't know before. Some categories were easier than others.

We had to keep track of which categories had already been picked by coloring in the correct box.
We also had to keep score at our desks.

While playing, we enjoyed a tasty 'Wheat Treat.'

Playing Jeopardy was a fun and competitive way to work together to learn more about our state of Kansas!

Before we left for winter break, we each created a tear-art sunflower for the art gallery.
January was Kansas' month!

Once we were finished with the construction paper, we added real sunflower seeds to the center.

Friday afternoon our class walked downtown to the local art gallery to take a look around at the Kansas exhibit. While we were there, we got to see our sunflowers on display!

During our guided tour, we learned about various Kansas artists and their work.

A few of our favorite artistic displays...

This friend of ours actually shares her birthday with Kansas.

We had a great day celebrating 150 years of Kansas!
