This week we've been learning about fire prevention. This year's theme is, "Fire alarms, a sound you can live with." Today we took a trip down to the local fire department to see what the station was all about. There, we talked to the firemen and got to see them dress up in their gear. We learned that in order to be a firefighter you must be able to gear-up in 60 seconds--that's REALLY fast!
Then, we got to crawl through the smoke-filled hallway.
Next, it was time for the second grade teachers to climb the 50 foot ladder on top of the fire truck. Mrs. Kasper was really scared, but Mrs. Robson, Miss Donley and Mrs. Johnson were fearless!
Up goes Mrs. Robson!
Miss Donley is on her way!
Slowly, but surely Mrs. Kasper makes her way to the top.
And...she's there!
There goes Mrs. Johnson, too!
After that, it was time to see the firemen in action! Not only do they put out fires, they save people's lives, too! They demonstrated using the jaws of life on a vehicle for us.
Watching very closely...
Finally, it was time to take pictures with some very special firemen!
We really enjoyed our trip to the fire station!
Thanks firemen for all you do!

Looks like a fun field trip (except for climbing that ladder!)
